This family entertains often and with large groups of people. The old layout of their kitchen didn't allow for the functional and open gathering space that they longed for. We removed the peninsula, relocated the sink to the window wall, and that allowed for an oversize island for prep/serving space and plenty of seating. The home was build in the late 80s so it had the soffit that was desirable at the time. Removing the soffit made the space feel far more open straight away. To save on demolition costs, vinyl plank was installed over the existing floor tile. While prep is required for installation, the cost savings is still worthwhile and allowed the budget to be focused in other areas. The entry area was always a point of contention due to the bizarre angles of the platform. Streamlining the entry is safer for guests and aesthetically pleasing.
